The Willard and Geneva Johnson Video Tape, held by the Archives of Appalachia at East Tennessee State University, consists of an interview from October 24, 1995 with Roan Mountain residents Geneva Johnson (b. April 2, 1919) and Willard Johnson (b. March 3, 1917) for the Hidden Heroines project. Geneva and Willard discuss many aspects of their lives in rural Tennessee during the early and mid 20th century. The topics are wide ranging but include their work and marriage, the murder of Geneva’s father, farming, folk remedies(including whiskey as a cure for measles and tobacco as a cure for earaches and bee stings), and apple butter making. Adele Adinolfi was the interviewer and Mike Johnson (Willard and Geneva’s grandson) was the videographer.
